Chief Executive Officer

Justin Sanderson MA, LPC-S, MBA A Texas native, Justin Sanderson assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer at Stone River in October 2023. As the Chief Executive Officer of Stone River Recovery, he is committed to advancing clinical excellence, operational integrity, and patient-centered care. With a robust academic foundation, Justin holds dual undergraduate degrees in English and Psychology from the University of Missouri, a Master’s in Counseling from Webster University, and an MBA from Texas A&M. His unique blend of clinical expertise and strategic leadership allows him to drive innovation in mental health and substance use treatment, ensuring programs are both evidence-based and responsive to the evolving needs of clients. Justin’s career spans diverse roles in the behavioral health sector, beginning in the non-profit space at a children’s bereavement center before transitioning to dual-diagnosis residential treatment. Over the years, he has spearheaded the growth and enhancement of multiple treatment facilities, specializing in inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient programs. His leadership has been instrumental in developing high-quality care models for individuals facing complex behavioral and medical challenges. An advocate for transformative healing, Justin has extensive experience utilizing modalities such as EMDR, DBT, and Existential Therapy to support clients on their recovery journeys. His leadership philosophy is rooted in fostering a culture of clinical integrity, operational efficiency, and a commitment servant leadership. Beyond his professional endeavors, Justin finds fulfillment in family life alongside his wife, raising their son and daughter while ardently supporting the Denver Broncos and Texas A&M Aggies.

Clinical Director

Shannon O’Donnell, LCSW, LCDC, joined Stone River as Clinical Director in October 2023.  She became an LCDC in 2010 and graduated from Texas State University in 2019 with her Master’s Degree in Social Work. Shannon believes that working in this field is a true calling for her. She has worked in various setting with an array of populations and every day she becomes more passionate about her calling.

She is truly grateful to have the opportunity to meet people in their most vulnerable state and witness a transformation in their lives. Her specialty is educating people on recovery, mental health and the 12-steps. Shannon feels that if people do not get sober loudly, then the sick continue to suffer quietly. Shannon is originally from Philadelphia (Go Phillies) and is a mom of two boys who are the joy of her life.

Sadie Torres joined Stone River Recovery Center as the Director of Human Resources in October 2023. She earned her BSB in HR Management and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. As a dedicated HR professional with 10 years experience in multiple industries, Sadie has a passion for providing assistance and guidance to all employees regarding HR operations.

With the pandemic bringing to light the importance of mental health, she understands the need of providing affordable and accessible substance recovery and mental health services to all in need. In her spare time, she enjoys staying active, cooking, traveling, and attending sporting events (especially college football games…Go Runners!) and concerts.

Born and raised in Florida, Susan relocated to Texas nearly 14 years ago. She is a proud mother of four and grandmother to five, spending much of her free time with family. With 9.5 years of sobriety, Susan is deeply committed to her recovery journey and supporting others on theirs. Susan brings seven years of experience in the substance use disorder field, having held key roles such as Technician, Admissions Coordinator, and Compliance Officer. Her unwavering dedication to helping others is reflected in her work and community involvement. She is also pursuing her academic goals and will begin studies at Liberty University in fall 2025, starting with coursework in business before advancing toward a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a focus on Christian Counseling.

Angel is the Director of Nursing at Stone River Recovery Center, bringing over 23 years of experience in healthcare. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Villanova University in 2002 and went on to receive her master’s degree as a Clinical Nurse Specialist from Hunter-Bellevue in 2006. Her career began in Women’s Services, where she dedicated 18 years before discovering her true passion for behavioral health and addiction medicine. This transition has been the most rewarding decision of her professional journey. With 17 years of leadership experience, she is committed to ensuring high-quality patient care and fostering an environment where individuals can heal and rebuild their lives. She finds immense fulfillment in witnessing the transformation of patients as they regain stability and health, knowing she plays a role in their journey toward recovery. Beyond her professional life, she is a devoted wife and mother of four, as well as a proud grandmother. A passionate animal lover, she shares her home with two dogs and five cats, all of whom keep her busy outside of work.

With a background in Recreation Therapy, Becca is passionate about helping individuals heal in a holistic and compassionate way. She is grateful to be part of an exceptional team that shares her commitment to making a meaningful impact on the lives of those in recovery. Outside of work, Becca enjoys traveling with her husband and is excited to welcome their first baby in the spring of 2025. A proud plant mama, she finds joy in nurturing her plant collection and believes that caring for living things—whether a patient, a plant, or her growing family—brings a sense of purpose and connection. Her dedication to patient care, combined with her genuine warmth and commitment to quality, makes Becca an invaluable leader at Stone River Recovery Center.

In her leadership role, Alyssa leverages her extensive expertise to guide, inform, and inspire her team, with a focus on creating meaningful and lasting impact in patient care. Her passion for healthcare is matched by her dedication to fostering positive change and supporting those around her. Outside of her professional endeavors, Alyssa treasures quality time with her wife and children. A devoted fan of Marvel, she has an impressive Iron Man collection and relishes a spirited Marvel vs. DC debate—always championing Iron Man as the ultimate hero. As she often echoes Tony Stark’s sentiment, “Heroes aren’t made, they’re built,” Alyssa embodies a commitment to continuous growth and resilience.

Rene is the Director of Environment of Care at Stone River Recovery, bringing a diverse background in military service and healthcare leadership. A New York City native, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance Company during the Reagan administration before joining the U.S. Coast Guard as part of a LEDET team. He later spent 15 years abroad, contributing to humanitarian efforts through the Foreign Legion in Bosnia and Africa. Returning to the U.S. in 2001, Rene began his healthcare career at Saint Vincent Hospital in Manhattan and served as a first responder during 9/11. With extensive experience in Acute Care, Behavioral & Psychiatric Health, and Oncology, he later worked at the corporate level for two national healthcare organizations, focusing on Plant & Environmental initiatives. Now at Stone River Recovery, Rene is committed to maintaining a safe, efficient, and healing environment for patients and staff, ensuring the highest standards in recovery care.

Luis Vega is the Director of Culinary Services at Stone River, where he is passionate about providing nutritious and high-quality meals for clients. A San Antonio native and a 1993 graduate of John Jay High School, Luis enlisted in the Navy shortly after graduation. He trained in San Diego, California, and was stationed aboard the USS Anzio CG68 in Norfolk, Virginia, before an injury led to his honorable discharge in 1995. Luis went on to earn an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts from St. Philip’s College in San Antonio in 2004. He married Alma Vega in 2006, and together they have three children: Aimee (23), Maya (17), and Luis (13). They are also the proud owners of three dogs and five cats. Luis enjoys watching football, supporting the Texas Longhorns and the Las Vegas Raiders.

Cara Schneider is the Director of Business Development and has dedicated her life to helping others. A proud mom of four and a new mimi to her grandson, she’s passionate about making a real difference in people’s lives. At 17, she joined the Army and deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 18th EOD. After her military service, she became a police officer, but she later found a new purpose in the mental health and addiction field. Coming from a family with a history of substance abuse, this work is personal for her, and she feels she’s able to help more people now more than ever. Beyond her professional dedication, Cara is known for her quick wit and love of making people laugh. A natural jokester, she believes that humor can bring light to even the darkest moments and enjoys bringing joy to those around her.

With a strong commitment to efficiency and compassionate care, she oversees administrative processes, billing, and patient advocacy, ensuring that every individual receives the support they need throughout their recovery journey. Recently relocated to the San Antonio area, Tina enjoys exploring local markets and art museums in her free time. An avid reader, she can often be found immersed in a great book. She also has a passion for dancing and takes every opportunity to enjoy the rhythm of life.
